Are you the one who hangs mistletoe, loves any form of twinkle lights, watches a dozen Hallmark movies and has a stockpile of holiday fuzzy socks? If so, you are my kind of person! This blog is for you and your special someone. Join me and my very own holiday sweetheart as we tour some of Minnesota’s best Christmas light displays. Take notes and make sure to go out and enjoy one of these festive themed dates.
Bentleyville Tour of Lights - Duluth, Minnesota
Who’s ready? A classic Duluth Christmas staple! It’s a night of great fun, open from November 18th-December 26th. Let this year be the year the magical “Tour of Lights” becomes a tradition for you and your loved ones. Buddle up and plan accordingly for walking and watching. Stop for some treats including popcorn, cookies, and hot chocolate. Even stop by the marshmallow hut and roast them over the open fires- a great chance to warm up those fingers and toes too. Enjoy some cute photo opportunities throughout the tour, including the iconic heart with the iconic Duluth Lift Bridge as the backdrop to the cutest cheesy photo ever! It is their 19th year hosting this stellar free event in Duluth. Open Evenings 5-9 Sun-Thurs, 5-10 Fri-Sat.
Severs Holiday Light- Shakopee, Minnesota
Make your holiday sparkle and stay cozy in your car. This family-owned operation has been offering festive fun since 1997. And they have twinkle lights galore in their 2,500,000+ holiday light display, which dances in time to the best songs of the season, and with festive food & drink vendors. It’s pretty much guaranteed to be merry. My personal favorite, because it reminds me of a display I went to when I was young. It’s super cozy and so much fun listening to my favorite kind of music- Christmas music!
The drive-thru is about ½ mile, you can drive through as many times as you’d like or stop at their observation lot and watch the whole show. This stunning display does require tickets, which you want to purchase ahead of time and choose a time slot. More info can be found on their website, linked above. Open seven days a week!
Winter Lights - Chaska, Minnesota
We all know how beautiful the Arboretum is, now imagine it in all its winter wonderland glory. Stroll hand in hand through the gardens, enjoy the fresh winter air as you explore the outdoor light displays, highlighting the beauty of nature. This whimsical one-mile self-guided walking route is one you don’t want to skip. New to the light display this year is a color-changing tunnel, and what I'm most excited for is the field of sunflowers. Purchase tickets online and discover more fun features offered. Open November 16th- December 31st!
Copper Creeks Christmas Acres - Nisswa, Minnesota
A holiday tradition filled with North Pole magic. Meet Santa, do some holiday shopping, go ice skating and enjoy their Christmas lights throughout the acreage. Plan a date night at Santa’s workshop with activities like wreath making, decorating an ornament, writing a letter to Santa and more. Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through November 24th - December 17th. They will be closed for the season December 22nd.
Celebrate The Light of The World- Wilmar, MN
Tucked in their own corner of the world in Wilmar, this is a beautiful family-owned Christmas light display. It started as one man's idea and has become their very own family tradition. Over the years their family has grown and so has this drive-thru twinkle light wonderland. Every year they do a wonderful job collecting donations throughout the season to support the non-profit organizations in their community. Open every night from November 25th, 5-10 pm throughout December 31st.
A fun bonus for any of these outdoor or drive-thru winter events would be to pack a thermos of hot cocoa or apple cider, a warm blanket big enough for two and a few simple snacks to enjoy in the warmth of the car. You could even pop on a classic Christmas movie on your phone and enjoy a very festive inexpensive holiday date night throughout the most wonderful time of the year!
